Just when they think they’ve run out of time, the doors to the shelter are thrown open and they’re given refuge. Five years in underground condos with all the provisions there for the taking. It’s almost too good to be true. With the promise of security, Vivian hopes she’ll finally able to take a deep breath and deal with everything that’s happened.

What can you tell us about the writing and publishing of Shattered World?

Like with my first couple books, it’s been years since I wrote Shattered World, but I do know one thing. I started writing it as soon as I finished the first draft of Broken World. I mean RIGHT AWAY. That’s not something I always do, which is why I have so many different series going at once, because a lot of times I need a break from a certain storyline/genre and decide to write something else in between finishing or continuing a series. But this was in the early days of my writing and when I started creating these characters, I was really focused on them. The first draft I can find of Shattered World is dated January 23, 2013, which is exactly a month after my first draft of Broken World. Just with book one in this series, I had a pretty clear picture of what was going to happen, which always makes writing the book easier, but as with Broken World, many of the plot points were as much of a surprise to me as they were to the reader. Remember, I don’t plot most of the time, which means I start with a basic idea and let the characters and story develop as I go.

When I was getting ready to publish Shattered World, I was still with the small publisher. If you’ve read my earlier post about Broken World, you’ll know that the publisher was literally a month from releasing it when they dropped me, and at that time, Shattered World was already under contract and with the editor. She was told by the publisher to quit working on my project immediately and have no further communication with me, but since she is freelance, she chose to reach out to me and as a result, she continued editing not only Shattered World, but many more books for me down the road. Broken World came out in July of 2014 and by the middle of August I put Shattered World up for pre-order on Amazon with a release date of October 1, 2014, and by the time it was released I had over 500 ebook pre-orders, which is a pretty big deal because most books sell less than 500 books in their lifetime, so needless to say, I was pretty excited.
