College is supposed to be fun.

Go to parties.
Pick up guys.
Maybe get in a little trouble.

On the surface Cami is your average, wild teenager out to have a good time, but inside she’s struggling. Almost a year ago her best friend was in a car accident, an accident Cami feels responsible for. Since then, she’s made it her personal mission to experience everything life has to offer, both for herself and for Julie, who will never have fun again.

Then she meets Liam, her cousin’s sexy roommate. Hooking up with a hot British dude seems like the perfect way to start off the school year, but the more time she spends with him, the more she finds herself actually liking the guy. Which totally screws up her plans to live life with no regrets…

What can you tell us about the publishing of No Regrets?

Again, this might be some repeat.

As you know, I had a 3 book deal with Kensington Press and this was the second book in my College of Charleston series. The first book, The List, did pretty well. I had a good amount of pre-orders and Kensington really did their part with marketing, so I had high hopes for the rest of the series. Unfortunately, the marketing dropped off a little more with each book I put out, so while No Regrets did okay, it was nothing compared to The List. The reviews were good, but the sales just weren’t there, and as the years passed they didn’t get better, and due to the lack of communication from the publisher, I was never able to really market it myself. It’s pretty hard to buy ads for a sale when no one tells you there’s a sale.

As I said in my posts for The List, I got my rights back for the series in 2019 and was able to revise, reformat, AND make new covers. For No Regrets, I was especially thrilled to be able to design a new cover! The original was, by far, my least favorite of the four books. In fact, when the publisher first emailed it to me, I actually laughed. It’s very 90s Brittney and Justin IMO. I mean, what’s up with the matching white tank tops???

I searched stock images – which wasn’t easy because the male lead, Liam is blond and there weren’t a lot of blond male models to choose from – and finally found the perfect couple, then looked for a beach scene. I wanted to change the covers but keep them similar color wise so they would be recognizable as the same book, and the result was amazing. Honestly, the cover for this book went from being my least favorite of the series to my absolute favorite. Better, right?

Not only that, but I got to redesign the interior of the books as well. Since my book deal was centered on ebook, the print books were kind of an afterthought and pretty generic (it was a print on demand, meaning they were online only) and I wanted to the series to stand out. Who cares if I only sell a handful? I want the handful of print books I sell to look gorgeous. And they do!

Getting my rights back is the best thing that could have happened for this series. No, it will never be my biggest seller, but this way I have control and I can do things like put out the audiobooks (which I’ve done) and create a box set (which I’ve also done), and I’m so happy to finally have control of my books.
