Twisted World: A Broken World Novel
Twisted Book 1
This novel is the first book in a zombie/dystopian series, set twenty years after the final book in the Broken World series. While reading the first seven books will be helpful, it is not necessary to follow the plot of Twisted World.
Twenty years ago a deadly virus swept the globe, ravaging the population. People died and came back as monsters, and through the tragedy that rocked the world survivors were born. Megan James is the product of survivors. Her parents crossed hundreds of miles of dangerous countryside to reach Atlanta, and the promise of a real future.
Now, two decades later, Meg is facing a crisis of her own. Her father has vanished and is presumed dead, and her mom is teetering on the edge of insanity, but all Meg really wants is to return to the safe world she always thought she was living in. Only Atlanta isn’t everything her parents thought it would be. The slums have grown and corruption is rampant, and despite the promise of democracy the new government has been slow to change. Through it all, the only consistency seems to be the zombies. Decayed and barely more than skeletons, there is no reason they should still be moving. But they are.
Facing the harsh world alone, Meg gets a job in the entertainment district of Atlanta where she meets convict fighter Donaghy. Angry at the world and his circumstances, all the fighter really wants is to be left alone. But when he gets swept up in Meg’s problems, he finds it impossible to turn his back on her.
When a mysterious note resurrects old rumors about what the CDC is really doing, Meg can’t help wondering if her father might have met the same fate that her uncle did twenty years earlier. With the help of Donaghy, she will search for the truth among the darkness that has settled over Atlanta, where they’ll soon discover that the mutated virus has brought forth creatures nobody could have imagined, and the evil intentions of the men in charge are much more sinister than anyone ever thought possible, making the future look harsher than ever before.
Twisted Mind: A Broken World Novella
Twisted Book 1.5
This novella is a dark and disturbing look into Jackson’s brain, and the inner-workings of the CDC. It will give readers a glimpse of the future, as well as answer questions that have plagued us from the very beginning of the Broken World series.
Born at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse to the head of the CDC and the leader of the new world, Jackson Star has always known that he would one day rule. Only the Stars’ plans go much deeper than simply keeping humanity alive, and the evil that sleeps inside Jackson is darker than even his father knows. Everyone in the settlement is a puppet, and everyone has a purpose in the Stars’ master plan, starting with Megan James.
But as Jackson and his father creep closer to achieving their goals at the CDC, things slowly begin to unravel. Meg isn’t cooperating the way she should be, and the presence of a new person in her life is threatening to blow their plan apart. Jackson must now decide how to deal with the girl he has spent the last nine years trying to manipulate, as well as the family she has left and the man who has taken up residence in her life. To complicate matters even more, the darkness inside Jackson has gotten increasingly persistent, making it difficult for him to control it at times and leading him to wonder if he shouldn’t just give in to his urges once and for all.

Twenty years ago Angus James woke to find himself in a sterile room. On the other side of the locked door, doctors worked to manipulate a virus, using him as their ultimate pin cushion. He was supposed to be dead – and there were moments over the next two decades when he wished he was – but despite his torturous existence, he remained a fighter. Through pain, love, loss, and heartbreak, Angus traveled a road that took him on a journey much bigger than the room he was confined to. As the world moved forward without him, he fought to hold onto as much of himself as he could, determined to make it out of his prison a whole man.

The world Megan James thought she knew has been slowly unraveling. Her father disappeared and was presumed dead, her mother’s sanity started to slip away, and the safe world she’d always thought she was living in slowly began to reveal its very dark and twisted depths. With the discovery that both her father and long-lost uncle, Angus James, were alive, Meg thought she’d finally learned all the secrets New Atlanta and the CDC had to offer, but she soon discovers that the surprises have barely begun.
With Jackson Star’s threatening presence looming over them, Meg and her family are forced to flee the walls of New Atlanta, leaving both Axl and Donaghy, the man Meg has come to care so much about, in the CDC’s clutches. Knowing that rescuing them will be no easy task, the group turns to a very unlikely source, and Meg soon discovers that her long-lost uncle has more than a few shocking secrets to share. After two decades of living behind walls, it looks like the end of the zombies could be in sight, assuming they can break into the most fortified building left in the world. Luckily, Angus James knows exactly what to do to make it happen.
But Angus isn’t the only one with a few tricks up his sleeves. When Jackson Star suddenly decides to release Donaghy, it isn’t out of the kindness of his heart. With the clock ticking more than ever, Meg finds herself in a race against time. Success means not only saving her family, but the whole world as well, while failure could very well mean a life of living as Jackson Star’s slave.
