Broken Stories is a compilation of short stories and novelettes that accompanies the Broken World series. From California to Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Colorado, listeners will get a glimpse at what other people went through before, during, and after the zombie virus outbreak.
Some of the characters featured in these stories have close ties to the main characters in the Broken World series, while others are brand-new. It’s an emotional, intense, and exciting look at how the zombie apocalypse has changed the world.
Since this is a collection of stories, things are going to be a little different this week, but still just as great!
Until Death Do Us Part
Originally, I wrote this story as a part of the Band of Dystopian authors Zombie Crawl for Halloween in 2014 – you can find that post here, but decided to add it to my collection of short stories. Here’s the rundown for this short story.
It takes place in Charleston, because I love Charleston, and features a newly wed couple – Sarah and King – whose honeymoon hasn’t exactly gone as planned. Apparently, vows weren’t enough to get them through the zombie apocalypse, and they’re barely speaking by the time we join them. They aren’t crossover characters exactly, but you do learn in Lost World that Richard had a granddaughter, Sarah, who was away on her honeymoon when the virus hit and got stuck. He has no idea what happened to her or her husband, but thanks to this short story, we get to find out. No spoilers – you’ll have to read it for yourself.
Starting Over
In this short story, we join Mike Parker and his girlfriend, Becca, in what used to be Atlanta just as they’re beginning to get organized and clean the city out. When I wrote this, I had no clue I would ever write the Twisted series, so there’s no mention of Star, but I several other characters in this story make cameos in other books.
Mike and Becca appear in these other books:
– In Alone, Roman meets Mike and Becca when he arrives in New Atlanta.
– Meg meets Becca in Twisted World when she goes to buy a gun from Mike.
– Mike meets with Axl and Joshua about working on the black market in Twisted Memories.
Phillips is mentioned as the woman in charge of the extraction mission, and she also appears in Twisted Memories.

Something Special
We meet Anna and Vince in the Florida Keys just as they’re rescued by another group. Too bad, it’s a little too late. Or at least they think so. Anna is the second immune person we meet, but the first New Atlanta has heard of. They’re all set to send an extraction team down – led by Phillips – but Anna runs away, afraid she’ll be a prisoner if she goes there. (Good call, right?) Unfortunately for her, the powers that be in Atlanta are determined to find her, and in Twisted Memories, we learn that they sent Phillips down to get for the girl and she eventually dies in the CDC.
