Broken Stories is a compilation of short stories and novelettes that accompanies the Broken World series. From California to Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Colorado, listeners will get a glimpse at what other people went through before, during, and after the zombie virus outbreak.

Some of the characters featured in these stories have close ties to the main characters in the Broken World series, while others are brand-new. It’s an emotional, intense, and exciting look at how the zombie apocalypse has changed the world.

Since this is a collection of stories, things are going to be a little different this week, but still just as great!

Thank You, Daddy

THIS is the original short story I wrote to submit to Prep for Doom! It started out in third person and was a little shorter because it didn’t have zombies in it, but it was easy to edit so I could include it in Broken Stories. It takes places in Altus, OK – where I was living – and I used a house that was right down the street from me as inspiration. There aren’t a lot of two story houses in Oklahoma, and this was one of only a couple on our street. It also had a little apartment in the backyard just like the one in the story. Altus AFB serves as the training base for ALL C-17 pilots – including those from other countries, and in the story, Emma’s parents rent the apartment out to student pilots coming in to the Air Force Base – we call furnished places like this crash pads – and Blake is a one of those guys.

If you’ve read all my books, you know this already, but here goes.

This is the origin story for The Oklahoma Wastelands series! No, I did not plan to write that series when I wrote this. Remember, at this point only 4 of the Broken World books were done, so I was focused on finishing that, not on what other zombie stories I would create. After finishing the Twisted series, though, I decided to write a new series in the same world but in a different part of the country, and Oklahoma seemed like the perfect place. Then I remembered this story and decided to add Blake and Emma into the series, which meant putting my survivors in one of the shelters. Jasper and Cade also make an appearance at the end of this story.
