College is supposed to be fun.

Go to parties.
Pick up guys.
Maybe get in a little trouble.

On the surface Cami is your average, wild teenager out to have a good time, but inside she’s struggling. Almost a year ago her best friend was in a car accident, an accident Cami feels responsible for. Since then, she’s made it her personal mission to experience everything life has to offer, both for herself and for Julie, who will never have fun again.

Then she meets Liam, her cousin’s sexy roommate. Hooking up with a hot British dude seems like the perfect way to start off the school year, but the more time she spends with him, the more she finds herself actually liking the guy. Which totally screws up her plans to live life with no regrets…

What can you tell us about the characters in No Regrets?

Cami is a really outgoing, bubbly person, so when I decided to write a book from her perspective, I was kind of excited because she’s soooo different from me. Of course, I knew there had to be some kind of inner turmoil happening with her to move the plot along, because I don’t write just romance. Plus, this is new adult, so the angst is important. She ended up being a very complicated character because the trauma she’s trying to overcome isn’t a little thing, and it added some layers to her character I hadn’t expected. On top of that, the reader got to see another level of her relationship with Ryan – her cousin/brother – in this book that I think really softened her. In the first book she often came across as self-absorbed, but in this book we get to see more of her vulnerability and gain a better understanding of why she’s trying to hard not to focus on anything too serious.

Liam is the love interest in this book, and when I started writing him I only knew one thing. He’s British. In the first book I only had a few scenes with him, and he used a lot of British slang that’s familiar with Americans – mainly as a joke between him and Ryan, which some readers didn’t quite pick up on and then accused me of making him stereotypical. Oh well. When I wrote this one, I happened to have a British writer friend who I sometimes swapped with, so she was nice enough to give it a read and help me polish his speech to ensure he sounded more authentic. It was a huge help.

Thanks Viki Biram wherever you are. We’ve lost contact since then, but the books I read of hers I really enjoyed. I hope to see them published one day.

Back to Liam. I knew I needed some drama/damage for him as well, and he was part of my problem during my first draft. I could never really flesh him out. I kept writing, hoping to come up with some kind of inspiration. The problem was, Cami’s backstory was so tragic and sad that I didn’t want anything that huge, but I needed a reason for him to rethink his ways and decide to be a stand up guy. It took some time, but eventually I figured it out and I think his issues are just enough to give him some depth without overshadowing what Cami is going through.

This book is definitely the steamiest of the four, so fair warning!
