After the longest winter of her life, Vivian is thrilled to have Ginny back at her side. But joy soon turns to shock when the group learns that not only is Hope Springs in contact with other survivors, but the CDC is working on a vaccine. And Angus could be the last hope for the human race.

RIP: Characters we lost in Forgotten World

Sigh. We lost a lot of great people, didn’t we? And some assholes, but let’s start with the people we love.

The people we left in Hope Springs:
Sophia – I never really built on her much, but she’s been around since the beginning, so we have to mention her. She just lost a baby and she has a little girl to take care of, and I don’t think many mothers would risk their only living child’s life to head across the country in the middle of the zombie apocalypse, so it makes sense that she’d stay behind.
Ava – She didn’t really have much of a choice in the matter since she’s just a kid. Thankfully, though, we get to see more of Ava in the third book of the Oklahoma Wastelands series, The Sweetest Torment – and I have plans for her down the road, so don’t be surprised if she pops up again one day.
Anne – She used Joshua to get over her heartbreak of losing Jake, and as a result ends up breaking his heart as well. Again, she’s a small character and I didn’t feel the need to drag her along with the rest of the group, plus it makes sense that she’d stay in Colorado.
Brady – He’s not ready to move on yet. His wife is buried in the gated community and he’s still struggling to get over her death, so he stayed behind as well. Like Ava, though, he pops up later on AND I have plans for him. Will we finally find out how he dies??? Maybe!

The people we love who met their ends:
Jon – This was a tough one, because it’s so unfair after everything he and Ginny have been through and they’re just reaching a point where the future looks bright. But, life isn’t fair – especially in a zombie apocalypse. RIP Jon. You were a stand up guy even if you did help kidnap Vivian and Hadley.
Ginny/Hadley – This is one of those deaths that it wasn’t easy to write. I really liked her character, but given everything they’d been through, I didn’t think it was likely that she’d survive. It was a sad to say goodbye – and hard to dispose of her body in such a grotesque way – but at least her baby survived. And at least she got to meet Megan before she met her end.
Angus – We all know he doesn’t really die in this book, but it ends with the group thinking he did. They made it to Atlanta, but to make sure all of his friends made it into the city safely, Angus sacrificed himself. Thankfully – according to the doctors at the CDC – they’re able to keep him alive so they can still create a vaccine using his blood. Angus is the hero after all!

The asshole we hate:
Dax – He’s a complicated guy who ended up being a little obsessed with Vivian – and with getting Angus to the CDC. I kind of thought of him as one of those guys (you know the type) who isn’t used to being told no, which drove him to go a little insane when he couldn’t Vivian. It’s because of him that the group gets stuck in the farmhouse, so I can say with confidence that his end is well deserved.

The one that got away:
Jim – The group is trapped and the only way to get out of the farmhouse and get Angus to Atlanta is for someone to lead the horde away. Enter Jim. He promised Jon that he’d look out for Ginny, which means also looking out for Megan, which is why he volunteers. This book ends with a big question mark when it comes to Jim, but if you’ve read on, you know he not only makes it, but he pops up again down the road.
